What I Need: September 8

Because I've given you a little more time to finish your cover letters/personal essays, I want to make sure that you are putting together your portfolios and have time to conference with me about what you have.
SO.
In class on September 8, I will be checking on the readiness of portfolios and holding conferences. While I may not be at the front of the class leading it or checking in on everyone individually all the time, I still need your cooperation to make things go smoothly and make class effective.
REMEMBER.
Here's what you need in your portfolio:

1. Three smaller/shorter writing assignments that you choose from the activities we did together in the ERWC packet.
2. The FAQ Assignment: 10 typed, relevant to you, and answered questions.
3. Cover letter or personal essay

Your cover letter needs three paragraphs. The first paragraphs answers three questions:

1. Why are you writing? (I'm writing in interest of...)
2. How did you hear about the job? (I heard about the position...)
3. Brief explanation of why you are the person for the job (I would be a good fit because...)

The second paragraph details TWO concrete pieces of evidence of experiences that are applicable to the position.

The third paragraph flatters or shows interest. (I am hard working, ______, ______, and I can see that you are ________. I would be a good fit because _______.)

Your personal essay needs to talk about some of the following:

• Perseverance
• Hard work
• A weakness becoming a strength
• Something you're passionate about
